Board of Directors
Rock River United is a 501c3 non-profit organization guided by a board of directors consisting of 8 positions. Below is a list of board members.
President: Matt and Amanda Fassler
Matt and Amanda Fassler, the presidents of Rock River United, are deeply invested in Christ-centered youth sports. They bring extensive experience to their roles, having been multi-sport athletes themselves and spending years coaching boys and girls of all ages. As youth leaders since 1997, they have also organized summer youth camps and Bible schools.
Both Matt and Amanda grew up in Dixon, IL. The Fasslers have six children—four are homeschool graduates and two are current RRU athletes. They believe that Christian athletics helped shape their adult children and hope RRU provides a similar valuable experience for other families.
Their ultimate goal is to spread the love of Jesus and support Christian families through RRU sports.
Vice President: Andre and Andrea Gomez
Andres and Andrea Gomez serve as the vice presidents of Rock River United. They are passionate about doing Eternal work for Jesus through youth sports.
Andrea grew up in Dixon, while Andre is from Anaheim, California. Together, they bring hometown roots and diverse experiences to the organization. They are parents to four children and RRU athletes: Maya, Vince, Cruz, and Anthony.
The Gomezes encourage athletes to grow in faith and character. Their favorite Bible verse is Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Secretary: Mark and Marcie Slagter
As the secretaries of Rock River United, Mark and Marcie Slagter strive to provide Christian families with a God-honoring sports experience. The want to encourage discipleship and encourage students to pursue excellence in all aspects of life.
Marcie is from Dixon while Mark was born and raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Slagters have five children Austin, Sadie, Claire, Levi, and Violet and two grandchildren. One child is still school age and an RRU athlete. Marcie and Mark bring a wealth of experience to the organization.
Treasurer: Travis and Crystal Killian
Travis and Crystal Killian are the Treasurers of Rock River United.
The Killians grew up and currently reside in Dixon. They have two homeschooled children and RRU athletes Maddox and Brooklyn. For many years, Travis and Crystal have coached both of their children, who are multi-sport athletes.
Crystal has worked as an accountant for McFall, Berge & Associates for over a decade.
The Killians believe there are countless life lessons taught through organized sports and are excited to see how God is going to use RRU to raise up the next generation.
Sports Director: Kole and Kelsie Weaver
Kole and Kelsie Weaver are the sports directors for RRU. They believe that athletics build more than just skills. They believe that sports shape character, instill moral values, cultivate leadership, and develop teamwork. They themselves have a strong background in sports and coaching.
The Weavers were both raised in the Dixon community and were married in 2007. They are the proud parents of four children: Kamrynn, Keelie, Kooper, and Kase of which 3 are RRU athletes. Currently, Kole works in business, while Kelsie is a devoted stay-at-home mom.
Through their work as Sports Directors, they hope to help shape the next generation both on and off the field.
Recreation Director: Greg and Natalie Petersen
As the Recreeation Directors for RRU, Greg and Natalie Peterson oversee Recreation.
Greg and Natalie have been involved in home education for over 25 years. Originally from Indiana, Greg and Natalie have been back in Illinois for 4 years. They have 5 children with only the last child, Eli, still in High School.
Through thier 25 year journey through home educatin, they have been involved in many different leadership roles including Co-op, Board Members, and Coaching.
The Petorsons look forward to helping to bring believers together for fellowship and fun!
Member at Large: Matthew and Noel Dusing
Matthew and Noël Dusing serve on the RRU Board of Directors as Members at Large.
Dusings have 4 children and have been married for 20 years. Matthew works as a CNC programmer and department supervisor. Noël is a certified professional midwife with a home birth practice in Ogle county.
They have enjoyed serving in various other ministries throughout the years including the Hope Life Center as Board of Directors, and the Evangelical Free Church of Mt. Morris (EFCMM) in the elder ministry, as well as, leaders in the youth ministry.
Chaplain: Cal Callison
Cal Callison serves as RRU Chaplain. He is a graduate of Hannibal Lagrange University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Cal has served in roles as Lead Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Youth Pastor in various churches in Northeast Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois.
In August of 2020 he became the Senior Pastor of Hope Bible Fellowship in Dixon.
Cal and his wife Bethany were married in 2000. They have three sons, two grown and one still at home.
Cal's position is advisory only and does not have voting rights.
